Bonnie

Thanks for the kind words. Honestly I never expected to win, I was just writing a story that I myself would like to read. Keep writing and good luck with your stories!

Michael,
I was checking out the Parsec contest & came across your story, "Under The Bed". I've just listened to it through the link on your website. I was very impressed. It was an excellent story & I enjoyed every minute. I write paranormal romance, childrens stories & am working on my 1st Horror. Was considering trying Scfi but no way could I compete with stories like yours!lol.
Keep up the good work.

Very keen observation Mike. As usual. I had to pass on V after what BSG did to the hope that I could ever get into Sci Fi again. I am afraid that I am really going to like it and they'll go and frak it up in season 3.

Heh, I agree, they should have left her hair long. But I'll still watch. I thought it was pretty good sci-fi fare, actually. They plotted it quick so they set up the major conflict in 1 ep - which I don't mind. I think the good looking people is the point - they're all v's and designed to be good looking. I think most of the humans are not shiny good looking folk. I mean, they tend in general to be good looking because it's tv and all, but most of them are rough around the edges. :)

They judge on speculative fiction and original content and "Under the Bed" was certainly all that. It was a great story. Nice job Mike! Don't stop.

This is fantastic Mike. As a writer, the effort and hard work you have been doing for the last few years has certainly paid off.

Thanks! I honestly expected someone else in that category to crush my chances, so I'm still a bit shocked that I won.

The book was a bridge, it had a deepening of the plot and characterization that worked very well even though it had less action than other books (not a negative in my mind). Now picture that bridge smashed into a few dozen tiny pieces and thrown up on the screen with ZERO context or even an attempt to thread the scenes together. Adaptations mostly suck I think, but the best ones don't attempt to recreate the book verbatim - they realize a visual medium is different and they need to repackage the content to work in that forum rather than the dialogue and description nature of a novel. The other movies at least tried to do that and got criticism for leaving parts out - but the movies could stand on their own without you having to have read the book.

This mess even went so far as to add in new things - a huge mistake in my opinion when there was so much of Rowling's material to work with in the first place.

I give it 8 out of 10 on my Gouge My Eyes Out with a Spork Scale (with 10 being scooping both of them out completely).
